Are Linguistic Prediction Deficits Characteristic of Adults with Dyslexia?

چکیده

Individuals with dyslexia show deficits in phonological abilities, rapid automatized naming, short-term/working memory, processing speed, and some aspects of sensory visual processing. There is currently one report the literature that individuals also impairments linguistic prediction. The current study sought to investigate prediction language dyslexia. Forty-one adults 43 typically-developing controls participated. In experiment, participants made speeded-acceptability judgements sentences word final cloze manipulations. was a high-cloze probability word, low-cloze or semantically anomalous word. Reaction time from onset participants’ response recorded. Results indicated showed longer reaction times, crucially, they clear differences low predictability sentences, which consistent Conclusions focus on mechanism supporting comprehension possible reasons why less

Adults with dyslexia demonstrate attentional orienting deficits.

Alerting, orienting and executive control of attention are investigated in five adult cases of dyslexia. In comparison with a control group, alerting and executive control were found to be generally intact for each case. Two spatial cueing tasks were employed. For the task requiring target detection, orienting difficulties were evident only in peripheral locations. While orienting attention to ...

Visual search deficits are independent of magnocellular deficits in dyslexia.

The aim of this study was to investigate the theory that visual magnocellular deficits seen in groups with dyslexia are linked to reading via the mechanisms of visual attention. Visual attention was measured with a serial search task and magnocellular function with a coherent motion task. A large group of children with dyslexia (n = 70) had slower serial search times than a control group of typ...

Are speech perception deficits associated with developmental dyslexia?

Phonological awareness and phoneme identification tasks were administered to dyslexic children and both chronological age (CA) and reading-level (RL) comparison groups. Dyslexic children showed less sharply defined categorical perception of a bath-path continuum varying voice onset time when compared to the CA but not the RL group. The dyslexic children were divided into two subgroups based on ...

Investigating learning deficits associated with dyslexia.

An artificial grammar learning task was used to define two learning tasks of identical complexity at the symbolic level, but which differed in terms of stimulus format. The stimuli in one learning task were created so as to encourage participants to perceive each stimulus as a whole, with less emphasis on the stimulus constituent elements (the 'embedded' stimuli), while in the second task the c...

Dichotic listening deficits in children with dyslexia.

Several auditory processing deficits have been reported in children with dyslexia. In order to assess for the presence of a binaural integration type of auditory processing deficit, dichotic listening tests with digits, words and consonant-vowel (CV) pairs were administered to two groups of right-handed 11-year-old children, one group diagnosed with developmental dyslexia and an age-matched con...
